Blog Tour: Winter at West Sands Guest House by Maggie Conway

Eva Harris has her hands full juggling a young son, a disobedient dog and running her thriving seaside guesthouse, so really the last thing she needs is to be distracted by her new neighbour, ridiculously handsome but arrogant Ben Matthews.

For one thing, she’s got nothing in common with the man, Ben’s a high flying lecturer at the town’s university while she barely scraped through high school, for another he’s fresh out of a relationship while Eva hasn’t been on one single date since the death of her husband, seven years ago!

She’s determined to keep her distance, but in a small town like St Andrews that’s easier said than done, and it doesn’t help that everyone, including her son Jamie, think Ben is wonderful! Breaking out of her sad but safe little bubble might be the hardest thing she’s ever had to do, but Ben might just be worth the risk…

Review

Today’s stop for the Winter at West Sands Guest House Blog Tour is being hosted by yours truly.  So if you are looking for a Romantic Holiday read to match that peppermint hot chocolate in your hand, go no further because Maggie Conway’s debut novel Winter at West Sands Guest House is exactly what you are looking for.

However, not everything can be perfect! This books gives you the most beautifully winter vibes but in this case I just wished it was a tiny bit more Christmassy, it seems to go past it quite fast (but there is an adorable dog so I let this one slide).

Conway’s writing is quite beautiful, and I love how she perfectly makes you feel that you are indeed in St. Andrews for an enchanting seaside holiday.  Throughout the story, the reader is quite aware of what both characters are thinking of each other, as the book goes from Eva to Ben’s point of view and vice versa. This isn’t the kind of book that you will read expecting twists and cliff hangers at the turn of each chapter, this is the kind of book you read to feel warm and fuzzy inside hoping for a happy ending!

One of my favourite things about the book is that Eva is the perfect handy-woman that needs no man’s help, and that Ben is the hardworking scholar. Why? Because reminds me of myself and my boyfriend (I kid your not, I’m the one putting all the furniture up, but he brings home the bacon!).

The thing is, even though I could see us in Eva and Ben, I genuinely thought that I was having my future read when it came to Heather. I’m no quite there yet with the kids and the marriage, but that personality is totally me! Heather is there to make sure not only Eva finds love this Christmas, but that she also relaxes a bit more when it comes to her son Jamie. It’s horrible to lose her husband and the thought of losing a child even worse, but her child is very much alive and needs to be able to enjoy life.

Also can we have a Heather and Douglas spin off? Like now? Pretty Please!

Overall, if you are a sucker for romances and binge watch all of those Hallmark holiday films every year this is the perfect book for you. I couldn’t stop turning those pages wondering what would happen next, and if Eva would find love this Christmas.

My only wish is that I had waited until this week to read it,  because this snowy weather would’ve been the perfect match for the book’s beautiful cover.

I never seem to pickup festive reads, maybe as it’s the time of year I have less time to read. But I do love a Christmas hallmark film so I’m clearly missing out

I find that some of this festive reads are actually quite nicely short and fast reads. It’s perfect to set you in the Christmas spirit and also to hit that goodreads goal 😂 who doesn’t love a hallmark Christmas movie 😍
