“He was reckless. He was exciting. He was Theo.
And he was a breath of fresh air in my otherwise extremely dull life”

What if the missing person is your missing piece?

Rose has always played by the rules – now it’s time to break them.

Life’s easier when you stay away from other people. Rose Valentine knows that. But some people are impossible to ignore. Take Theo Lockhart. He’s handsome, funny and beyond intriguing. He’s a mystery; one that Rose dreams of solving.

Then one night the mystery deepens. Theo turns up on Rose’s doorstep, desperate to hide out at her house. He’s keeping secrets, and Rose has a million questions. Not least – why did he choose to run to her?

If Rose lets him in, she’ll be going against everything she holds true. It’s reckless, risky – and definitely not in the rulebook. But Theo makes Rose long to break the rules After a whirlwind week of brat-pack movies, midnight snacks and non-stop chat, where do Rose and Theo go from here?

Mini-Review

When reviewing a book it isn’t the norm to mention the age of the author, as age isn’t something that will affect how good or bad the book is. However, in this case I do feel the need to mention that the lovely author of Nowhere Else But Here is only 17 years old. It’s quite amazing to read a teen book written by an actual teen, and I think us bloggers should do our best promote the amazing efforts done by young authors such as Rachel Cotton.

Nowhere Else But Here is a beautiful YA contemporary story, full of love and mystery. Rose mostly takes care of herself as her parents are constantly at work, something that I could relate to, as myself practically lived on my own from 16 years old. I found Rose quite likeable, maybe because I found it so easy to connect with her.

The only criticism I have is that the beginning felt a bit abrupt, making it harder to connect with Theo. I believe that if it had a bit more set up at the beginning the story had flown easier, a bit like the second half of the book. Once the story gets going and with Theo’s fun loving interactions with Rose you get to like him quite a bit.

I’m a sucker for romance and when is teen romance even more as let’s me reminisce my teen years. Also, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that once was a young hopeless romantic and that if a handsome boy had showed up in my house needing my help, I would’ve probably let him hide in my room too.

Overall, Nowhere Else But Here was a very sweet, cute and romantic novel that also touches on some difficult subjects. A fantastic debut by Rachel Cotton and even more fantastic for the fact that she has written this book while still in school. I really can’t wait to see what Cotton will bring us next time.
