What a way to star the year! I’m utterly and completely in love with A Throne of Swans by Katharine and Elizabeth Corr. I can’t wait to get a hold of the second book!

A Throne of Swans draws inspiration from Swan Lake’s Odette and Siegfried’s story and brings the dark fairytale retelling all the way up!

The story is very well paced, starting slow enough to be sure that the reader can place themselves within the magical world of Solanum and retain all the different characters and their houses. The pace gradually picks up diving you straight into a story of shape shifters, royal conspiracies, betrayals and broken hearts (the last one being mine).

The Corr’s have a beautifully evocative way of writing, making you feel that you are right there by Aderyn side the whole journey. Also creating incredible complex and dynamic characters, where no one is actually perfect…which is such a relief to read.

Also the greatest achievement was probably the fact that for once I actually fell in love for the good guys and not the villain. That’s what you get for creating such a great character like Lucien, Lord Rockwood (a little bit in love here not gonna lie!). Katharine and Elizabeth better be taking good care of my boy in the second book, I don’t think I can deal with him being heartbroken.

Before this review turns into and ode to Lucien, I just want to add that A Throne of Swans it’s beautifully written, the world building is exceptional, the plot is intricate, the characters feel realistic within their complexity, and the romance is just enough to keep things interesting without being constantly in your face.

The most tragic thing is that I have to wait for the second book until 2021.Deeply Tragic!

Anyway, A Throne of Swans is the fantasy shape shifting book for bird lovers fans of Swan Lake.
